Classic Greek Pita Bread

Classic Greek Pita Bread

Greek pita bread has its origins in the ancient Mediterranean, where flatbreads were a staple of daily life, and since then, it has remained a central part of modern Greek cuisine.

Softer, thicker, and without the internal pocket, the Greek pita bread is ideal for wrapping gyros, souvlaki, or shawarma. It is often slightly chewy, with a tender texture, and is usually brushed with olive oil before being warmed or grilled. Unlike other flatbreads, it is traditionally served alongside various dips like tzatziki, hummus, or melitzanosalata, and can also be used to scoop up sauces and stews.
